It was a landmark week for Omonia Youth FC as the club announced a new Chairman, paused to remember a much-loved member of the Omonia family, and kicked off the new season with amazing performances from our young players.
Announcement: Mike Michael named new Chairman
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mike Michael as the new Chairman of Omonia Youth FC.
Mike joined the club in 2020 as a coach for his son’s team, who are now the U14 White team. Since then, Mike has been an active member of the Club Committee for several years, serving as Development Officer and, most recently Vice Chair.
Speaking about his appointment, Mike said:
“I am incredibly proud of the vibrant, inclusive community we have built here. Football is more than just a game; it’s about bringing people together, fostering lifelong friendships and nurturing young talent in a safe and positive environment.
I’m grateful to everyone who has helped shape this club, especially to my predecessor Sophia Karanicholas, and I look forward to building on that fantastic legacy.”
Mike will continue to be supported by the Committee, Coaches and Trustees during his chairmanship.
A Minute’s Silence for Philip Philippou, Chairman of Stef & Philips
Our teams held a one-minute silence ahead of their games this week in memory of Philip Philippou, Chairman of Stef & Philips, the club’s main sponsor.

It was a memorable start to the new season for Omonia Youth FC, with our young players delivering a series of impressive performances across the weekend.
Adding to the excitement, several teams debuted their brand-new kits, which they’ll wear for the next two seasons. Featuring the Stef & Phillips logo, the kits mark the third year of our partnership with Stef & Phillips, who continue to proudly sponsor the club. With new kits, strong performances and plenty of enthusiasm across the age groups, the new season is off to a fantastic start for Omonia Youth FC.
The new season also brought an exciting milestone, as our new Performance Pathway team, the U11 Platinums, made their highly anticipated debut in the Mid Herts League, marking an exciting new chapter in the development of our young players. The team represented Omonia with great pride as they took to the pitch for the first time in competitive action
Omonia U14 Green Win Over U14 White – First Derby of the season

The new season got underway with an Omonia derby, as the U14 Greens took on the U14 Whites. Before kick-off, both teams observed a minute’s silence in memory of the late Philip Philippou, providing a poignant start to the morning.
The U14 Greens secured a 2–0 victory in a competitive game, with both teams showing commitment and effort throughout.
Coach Sadat of the U14 Greens reflected on the match:
“Early-season matches are always demanding as players build their fitness, and the whole squad worked hard. It was a competitive match, with the Greens creating several opportunities and controlling periods of the game.
“The breakthrough came from a corner delivered by Aymen, which Anas met with a glancing header into the corner.
“The narrow lead ensured there was still plenty to play for in the second half. Both teams continued to work hard, with the game remaining competitive and played in a positive spirit.
“The second goal came from a pass by debutant Sulaiman, who found Aliihsan inside the area, with Aliihsan finishing accurately from the left side of the box to make it 2–0.
“I’d also like to give a special shout-out to our debutants, Sulaiman and Franek, who both made their first appearances for the team and contributed positively to the game.”
It was a competitive Omonia derby played in a good spirit, with both the U14 Greens and U14 Whites putting in a strong effort to open the new season
U11 Silver – Back in Action

A fantastic effort from the U11 Silver boys in their first game of the season!
With only seven players available, no substitutes and several new players in the team, the boys showed excellent determination and character. They found themselves behind but fought back brilliantly, showing great teamwork and refusing to give up.
Understandably, the boys became tired as the game went on, but they held their ground, supported one another and continued doing their best until the final whistle.
There are still areas for us to improve, particularly maintaining our shape and concentration when we become tired, but every player should be extremely proud of today’s performance.
A very encouraging start to the season. Well done, boys!
U10 Silver – Introducing our new U10 team

Wow, what a performance from the U10 Silvers today!
A newly formed team with only a couple of training sessions under their belts, yet you really couldn’t tell! The boys played with the togetherness and confidence of a team that had been playing together for years.
Every player gave 100%, and everyone had a moment that impressed coach Richard. Too many highlights to mention them all, but a special shout-out to Daniel for what could already be the goal of the season. A stunning half-volley from just past the halfway line to lob the keeper!
And a huge well done to Dylan for some fantastic fingertip saves, earning praise from our opposition too.
Massive congratulations to all the boys. This team has immense potential, and we can’t wait to see how they develop throughout the season.
A big thank you to all the parents for their positivity and encouragement from the sidelines. It makes such a difference.

U8 Silver – New Season, New Team

What a first outing for our new U8s! There were plenty of positives to take from the performance and lots to build on moving forward.
The boys grew into the game brilliantly. First half was all about finding their feet – a brand new team, first time playing together – but as the game went on you could see the passes starting to stick, the runs being spotted, and the confidence building. By the end they were creating plenty of chances.
Every single player gave everything they had, and nobody’s heads dropped. That’s exactly the attitude we want to see, and it says a lot about this group.
Massive well done to all the boys. First games are never easy, and to keep improving right through to the final whistle is a brilliant sign of what’s to come.
Onwards and upwards, U8s. Bring on next week!
U11 Green – Kicking off the new season

Omonia Greens U11 kicked off the new season with an excellent performance away at Enfield Rangers U11s. From the first whistle, the Greens played with confidence and purpose, moving the ball quickly, pressing with real energy and producing some excellent passing football. It was an impressive start to life at U11 level, with the team taking control of the game and showing their quality across the pitch.
The Greens maintained their intensity throughout, defending strongly when required and creating plenty of opportunities through intelligent movement, teamwork and composed play. Most pleasing was the way the team worked for one another and continued to play positive football from start to finish. A hugely encouraging performance to open the new league season, with plenty to build on in the weeks ahead.
U11 Platinum- First Game, Fresh Start
Coaches: Simian & Dee- in partnership with the Transition Football Academy (TFA)
A fantastic first game together for our new U11 boys team!
The boys were excellent in the first half, showing crisp passing, great teamwork and real confidence for a brand new team.
The second half was tougher, but it highlighted some fitness work we can build on after the summer break. Plenty of positives to take, and the boys should be really proud of their effort and attitude.
U10 White- Back on the Pitch
Coaches: Zac & Chris
Playing against a very technical team, the boys worked hard and showed some great moments throughout the game.
Some fantastic goalkeeping kept us in the game, and while we struggled to find our rhythm at times, there were plenty of positives to build on. We’ll keep working on our fitness, energy and passing- lots to improve, but plenty to be excited about!
U10 Green- The Journey Begins
PoTM: Christopher | Coaches: Andy, Paul & Chris
Omonia started slowly, allowing Enfield some early opportunities before settling into the game and producing some really positive football. The boys enjoyed good spells of control and created really good chances, and the match could have been much closer at half-time with a little more luck in front of goal. When Enfield gained the upper hand, they were able to take advantage with a few quick goals.
The boys showed great effort after the break, continuing to work hard. There were still plenty of positives to build on, with Christopher working tirelessly in midfield and switching the play well, while Leonidas made a real impact on the wing. James also produced an excellent, brave block to prevent a goal. Plenty of encouragement to take into the next game.
