Stunning end of year displays by Omonia Youth FC teams

December 22, 2016

Last Sunday, community football club Omonia Youth FC, sponsored by P&M Construction Ltd, celebrated some stunning team and individual performances as youth football teams played their last competitive matches of 2016. With many Omonia Youth FC teams well placed in their respective leagues, this positive end to 2016 bodes well for the New Year.

The individual performance of the weekend, and possibly the season so far, came in the Under 13 Gold’s 14-0 thrashing where Panos Papa-Michael and Andy Michael saw Youssef Habibi score 12 (twelve) goals. A stunning achievement and worthy of the Man of the Match award. Alex Georgiou and Elia Michael scored the other goals.

Nick Zimaras’ Under 16 White drew 3-3 in a game they dominated and were unfortunate not to take all three points having conceded a last minute equaliser. Carlos got two goals with Rosley the other one. Carlos was named Man of the Match.

The Under 12 Gold of Jimmy and Chris Mousicos suffered a 5-1 defeat. Louis Georgiou got their goal with Rhodos Stylianou and Aaron Lewis were jointly named Man of the Match.

The Under 12 Green of Mario Christoforou and Nick Lingis recorded their sixth win out of six league games with a 3-0 win. Louis E, Jack A and Amaan A with the goals. Cos G & Raul A were named joint Man of the Match.

George Sammoutis and Harry Theodorou saw their Under 12 Silver lose 4-1 but the score was not indicative of a thoroughly encouraging performance. Aman scored the goal and was also named Man of the Match alongside Anthony.

Kyri Haili and Mike Petrou’s Under 13 White notched up another win with a dominant display, winning 6-0. David preece (2), Peirgiacomo B (2), Alex Theoharous and Ashley Meyer scored the goals with Ashley also being named Man of the Match.

In the Mid Herts Premier League the coaching team of Dean Dionysiou, Varney Michael, Neo Petrides and Mike Kleopa witnessed another fantastic performance from their Under 14 Green. The side go into the winter break top of the league after an 8-0 win. George Stasi (3), Angelo Michael (3), Luca Cardines and Baraa got the goals. Angelo Michael was named Man of the Match.
Elia Constanti’s Under 16 Green narrowly lost 1-0 in their last match of 2016.

Chris Gregoriou’s Under 15 White finished 2016 on a high; they are second in the league and are in two cup quarter finals. On Sunday they won 3-1 in the Challenge Cup. Goals from Antonio Gelagotellis, George Kyriacou, and Michael Patsias. Man of the Match was awarded to Luke Philippou.
A fine display from Kyri Georgiou’s Under 15 Green saw them push the league leaders all the way but narrowly lost 3-2. What made the performance all the more promising was they played nearly all the second half with 10 men. Solos scored both goals with Ellis named Man of the Match.

Andy Charalambous’ and Nick G’s Under 14 White won 3-1 and end 2016 top of their league and still unbeaten.  Goal scorers were Louis Qamite (2) and Styli Chrysostomou. Man of the Match was Steven.

Youth football will return on January 8th as leagues now enter the winter break. The committee, managers, coaches and players of Omonia Youth FC would therefore like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in the community a very happy Christmas and a prosperous, healthy New Year.
