Semi-final joy and pain for Omonia Youth FC

March 29, 2019

Two teams from community grassroots club Omonia Youth FC, sponsored by PIA Financial Group and Philip Ross Solicitors played in cup semi-finals last weekend. While one team can look forward to a final the other will reflect on a missed opportunity.

Panos Papa-Michael, Elias Constanti and Andy Michael’s Under 15 Gold are celebrating a stunning semi-final performance as their team strode into the Challenge Cup Final after a comprehensive 7-2 semi-final win. The boys thoroughly deserved the win and were in control from start to finish. Each and every one of the squad also had a positive impact on the game. They played some great football, mixing up the play with efficient team play and some individual brilliance. The Under 15 Gold have really grown this season and not just in football terms, but with a great sense of discipline and respect to all involved.

Well done to all involved on a fantastic achievement. The final will be played in May. More details when we know.

Goals were scored by Man of the Match Fabion Zylfi (3), Andreas Polycarpou, Youseff Habibi, Michael Papamichael and Denis

Unfortunately, Chris and Jimmy Mousicos’ Under 14 Gold could not follow the Under 15 Gold as they lost their semi-final 4-0. Played on an awful pitch, the Under 14 Gold just could not get going. Man of the Match was Rayen Haboubi.

George Sammoutis and Harry Theodorou’s under 14 Silver completed their Spring Plate campaign by beating their opponents 3-1 to finish runners up in the group .

Goal scorers were Aaryan Bhogra, Kyri Kyriacos, Mehmet Buyuk. Man of the Match went to two players, Joe Tullis and Jakub Wojciechowski. A centre back pairing who give the rest of the team the confidence to play attacking football.

Michael Pieri’s Under 14 White lost 5-2 in their Spring Plate tie to a very good team from a division above. The boys grew into the game after gifting the opposition two goals in the opening three minutes. Goals were scored by Itiel Omadjela and Thomas Georgiou. Man of the Match was Noel Allen who drove his team on throughout from central midfield.

Nick Lingis and Mario Christoforou’s Under 14 Green warmed up for the massive County Cup Final on Sunday 31 March with a 3-0 home victory. Goals were scored by Nathan, Joe K and Georgios who was also named Man of the Match.

Nick Georgiou and Dino Savva’s Under 16 White won 1-0 away and collected all three league points. It was not the Under 16 White’s best performance of the season but the second half was much better than the first and they managed to score one of the many chances we created. Scorer was Peter Michael with Alex Pike named Man of the Match.

Mario Demetriou, Johnny Othona and Elvis Leon’s Under 12 Green were 2-0 down at half time to a physical team after half time words of encouragement as some changes went out and dominated their opponents to run out 4-3 winners. The definitive game of two halves! Man of the Match Nat grabbed himself a hat-trick with Andreas getting the other goal.

Mario Yiasemi’s under 12 Gold won their Spring Plate tie 5-1 and it was all the more impressive as the team they played are from a higher division. The boys put in a great performance and were strong from back to front. Arda scored a hat-trick with Dhiren and Jayden also on the scoresheet. Man of the Match was Jack.

Kyri Georgiou’s Under 18 Green collected three important league points thanks to a 3-1 win. It was a good, disciplined and professional display where after going a goal down early the team showed  great character to come back and win comfortably. Goal scorers were Charlie Consanti, Antony Kyprianou and Man of the Match Michael Speers
