Omonia Youth FC’s Weekly Round-Up: Strong Starts and Team Spirit (21/09)

It was another exciting weekend of football for Omonia Youth FC, the community football club sponsored by Stef & Phillips. Across boys’, girls’, and youth teams, there were fantastic performances, valuable lessons learned, and plenty of reasons to feel proud.
U11 Silver Girls – A Positive First Step

The U11 Silver Girls showed fantastic energy and spirit in their very first match. After withstanding early pressure, they began putting into practice their training work, with debutants impressing and the whole squad supporting one another. A stronger second half saw them create chances and finish the game brightly, building confidence for the weeks ahead. Maya was named Player of the Match for her determination, attitude, and encouragement of teammates.

The U10 Green Girls went into their match buoyed by last week’s performance. They faced a well-drilled team but gave maximum effort from start to finish. Despite the challenge, they left the pitch smiling and full of enthusiasm, with valuable lessons learned. This group continues to grow together, showing progress with every match.
U9 Green – Battling Away
Watford Friendly League (WFL) Match vs Club SFC Whites U9, PotM: Michael, Coaches: Andy Savas
The U9 Green started brightly in the sunshine but found it tough to maintain shape, allowing early openings. Highlights included a slick counter-attack from a corner and excellent goalkeeping, particularly a remarkable triple save. Although sharper reactions to second balls might have created more goals, Michael’s creativity and composure stood out, earning him Player of the Match.
U11 Silver – Teamwork Pays Off

U11 Silver began strongly, chasing down possession and pressing hard. Facing a skilful side, the boys adapted by moving the ball quicker and focusing on teamwork. That unity proved decisive, helping them overcome fitness challenges and secure a strong result in a hard-fought game.
U14 Silver – Cup Success
Cup Match vs AFC Southgate, 2–1 win, Goals: Albion, Alan, Player of the Match: Alan, Coaches: George Sammoutis, Mitul Kataria
The U14 Silver earned back-to-back wins in a tough cup tie. After a slow start, they improved ball movement and Albion’s run and finish gave them the lead before half-time. Alan flicked in a superb second from Kyri’s cross, and despite Southgate’s late goal, the team held firm. Alan’s all-round display and crucial strike earned him Player of the Match.
U13 White – Narrow Cup Defeat
Cup vs Titans FC, 2–2 (lost 4–3 on penalties), Goals: Eren, Logan, Player of the Match: Eren, Coaches: Michael Michael, Stelios Karaolis, Chris Komodromou

The U13 White showed resilience in their cup game, with early defensive heroics before Eren’s long-range strike opened the scoring. Despite trailing at half-time, Logan equalised after the break, with further chances created. After a 2–2 draw, the game went to penalties where Titans edged it. Eren took Player of the Match for his influence and superb goal.
U10 White Girls – A First to Remember

The U10 White Girls played their very first match and impressed from the start. After a nervy opening, they grew into the game with strong passing and teamwork. Maria, making her debut in goal, produced excellent saves and applied new training knowledge perfectly, earning Player of the Match. A superb beginning with smiles all around.
U9 White – Signs of Progress

The U9 White battled hard in a challenging fixture. Despite the scoreline, their movement, aggression, and attacking output showed clear improvements, creating more chances than in any previous game. Work remains on reactions and ball control, but the foundations are being built and confidence is growing.
U12 White – Dominant Display
WFL vs Hinton Revolution Ballers, 4–0 win, Goals: Hugo, Grayson, Lj, Ollie, Player of the Match: Grayson, Coaches: Christos Hajipapas, Fahd Kashmiri

The U12 White delivered an outstanding team performance away from home. Relentless pressing and attacking football put them 3–0 up by half-time, and another goal after the break sealed the 4–0 win. Grayson shone with energy and creativity, earning Player of the Match in a superb all-round showing.
U10 Silver – Big Step Forward
WFL vs West Hampstead Titans U10, Player of the Match: Leo Venus, Coaches: Dem Panayiotou, Jason Demetriou

Omonia Youth FC U10 Silver
The U10 Silver responded brilliantly to last week’s setback, playing with discipline and determination. Strong defending, excellent goalkeeping, and impressive goals were highlights of a much-improved performance. The players encouraged one another throughout, with Leo Venus awarded Player of the Match for his influence.
U18 Girls – Thrilling Win
HGFPL vs Barnet Panthers U18 Girls, 5–3 win, Goals: Shekhinah 3, Georgia, Sophie, Player of the Match: Sophie, Coaches: Sophia Karanicholas, Samuel Arthur, Myri Demetriou
The U18 Girls turned a 1–0 half-time deficit into a 5–3 victory with a dominant second-half display. Sophie’s stunning free-kick and all-round midfield play proved pivotal, while Shekhinah’s hat-trick continued her fine form. Georgia also scored, and crucial set-piece deliveries created two goals from corners. A real team effort that showcased belief, energy, and ambition.
U12 Silver – Strong Response
WFL, Player of the Match: Jonah, Coach: George Georgiou
Despite conceding first, the U12 Silver held their composure, worked tirelessly, and fought back to end the game on top form. Jonah’s phenomenal display earned him Player of the Match in what was an excellent team showing full of resilience and confidence.
U8 Gold – Growing Together
WFL vs Alexandra Park U8 South, Player of the Match: Max, Coaches: Chris Kakkoufa, Kyri Kyprianou
The U8 Gold worked extremely hard in a competitive game, putting training into action to strengthen their defence and control the game better. Every player contributed with great effort and resilience. Max was named Player of the Match for his all-round performance and positive impact across the pitch.
