Omonia Youth FC Weekly Round-Up: Resilience, Progress and Brilliant Performances (13th Apr)

April 15, 2025

Another action-packed weekend of grassroots football saw Omonia Youth FC teams take to the pitch with determination, skill and spirit. Across the age groups, players impressed with their teamwork, resilience and some standout individual displays.

Here’s how our teams fared:

U16 White Return to Form with Superb Away Win

Away vs AEK | Red Division | 1-3 win | Goals: Kyri, Callum, Andreas J | Player of the Match: Alessandro & Kyri | Coaches: Kyri Eleftheriou, Myri Demetriou, Joe Da Silva

Omonia Youth FC’s U16 White returned to form with an excellent 3-1 away win against AEK in the Red Division. After a difficult run of recent fixtures, the boys delivered the type of performance they’ve been capable of all season.

Dominating the first half, the team pressed well, won important duels, and showed real quality on the ball despite a tricky playing surface. Kyri opened the scoring from a corner scramble, before Alessandro produced a superb penalty save to keep the lead intact.

The second half saw even more control, with Callum drilling home his first competitive goal for the club after fine work down the right. AEK briefly pulled one back, but a composed team effort saw the boys weather late pressure, with Alessandro again making a crucial save. Andreas J sealed the win after a swift counterattack.

U8 Green Battle Bravely Against Tough Opposition

Home vs Colney Heath U8 Reds | Player of the Match: Christopher | Coaches: Andy Savas, Dominic Willcock

The U8 Green faced a tough match against a strong Colney Heath U8 Reds side. Both Chris and Christopher impressed early with determined dribbling and bravery in one-on-one situations.

As the game wore on, the team lost some shape and intensity in their pressing, which allowed the opposition to capitalise with long-range efforts. However, the team kept fighting, with lively movement from Leonidas creating chances to keep the contest alive.

Player of the Match Christopher was outstanding throughout, covering every area of the pitch and tirelessly supporting his teammates.

It was a day to remember for Omonia Youth’s U9 Silver as they produced a superb display at home against APB Wingate U9 Poets. After a steady start, the boys found their rhythm and produced what the coaches called their most complete performance of the season.

Crisp passing, relentless pressing and wonderful team spirit were on show, with every player contributing to an outstanding all-round effort. George earned Player of the Match for his commanding display in midfield, combining tough tackles with composed play to spark countless attacks.

Special mentions for Kaenan, who continued his fine form, and Ale, who excelled defensively despite typically playing further forward.
