Omonia Youth FC Weekly Round-Up: Commitment, Growth, and Defensive Brilliance (16th Feb)

February 17, 2025

This weekend’s matches showcased Omonia Youth FC’s commitment to development, resilience, and teamwork. From defensive brilliance to lessons learned on the pitch, every game provided an opportunity for growth. Strong performances across the teams highlighted not only skill but also the spirit and determination that define the club. Here’s a look at how the teams fared.

U18 Girls: Solid Defence and Ruthless Attacking

Score: 0-3 win | Goals: Shekhinah x3 | Player of the Match: Georgia

A game of few chances, but Omonia Youth FC were clinical, converting most of their attacks. The difference today was defensive organisation and team-wide determination. The defenders were outstanding, keeping two dangerous strikers quiet, while stand-in keeper Anika made a crucial save to maintain the clean sheet. Shekhinah’s hat-trick was the highlight, but the biggest positive was the team’s style of play. Building from the back, passing with purpose, and pressing aggressively, the team showcased improved composure, physicality, and structure compared to last season. A strong performance that reflects their progress.

Coaches: Sophia Karanicholas, Samuel Arthur, Myri Demetriou.

U11 White: A Tough Day, But Lessons Learned

A difficult game for the team today, as they struggled to find their rhythm. Losing four players before kick-off meant an outfield player had to step into goal, and the team had no substitutes. Their opponents controlled large parts of the match due to lapses in focus and execution. However, Omonia caused problems when moving the ball quickly, creating a few good opportunities. Despite losing another player in the second half, the team pushed until the final whistle. A tough result, but with two tournaments over the half-term, there is plenty to look forward to.

Coaches: Abdi Ismail, Christos Hajipapas, Fahd Kashmiri.

U14 White: Defensive Strength and Tactical Awareness

Score: 2-0 win | Player of the Match: Chris

The focus of today’s league match was improving defensive shape and implementing training-ground work on movement and space. A few changes saw Chris take on a central midfield role, Ryan at left back, and Abel as the forward, while Kelvin made his competitive debut. Omonia started brightly, with Chris finishing a solo move into the bottom left corner, assisted by Victor. The second goal arrived late in the half when Chris crossed from the right, and Abel clinically finished.
The second half saw Omonia dominate but miss several chances in the final third. A disciplined defensive display from Ryan, Adam, captain Nick, and Alex, along with exceptional saves from Aref, secured the first clean sheet since mid-October.

Coaches: George Agrotis, Mark Hodges, Pav Christou.

U9 Silver: Learning Through Experience

A nice, crisp day got the boys out there running to keep warm. Their focus was to be braver on the ball and work on their cohesion. It didn’t go fully to plan, and the boys learned how important it is to be accurate when passing. The team worked on receiving the ball, and there were some encouraging examples of this in play. A few players really shined, with Kranthi supporting the players around him, William fighting hard in defence, and Leo trying out as goalkeeper for the first time, showing great potential.

Coaches: Kyri Karaiskakis, Paolo Di Bernado, Becky Nyman.
