Omonia Youth FC’s Men II Team Secure Resounding Victory in Middlesex Cup Final (21/04)

April 24, 2024

In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Andy Charalambous, Elia Constanti, and Demi Shiamishis’s Omonia Youth FC Men’s 2nd Team emerged triumphant with a resounding 5-1 win in the Middlesex Cup final clash against Shire United at Rectory Meadow, the Hanworth Villa FC stadium on Sun 21st April.

From the outset, it was evident that the encounter would be fiercely contested, with both sides showcasing their prowess in a physical and fast-paced encounter. Despite the intensity, Omonia seized the initiative early on, as Christian Halmshaw calmly dispatched an early penalty to put his side 1-0 up heading into halftime.

However, the second half brought about a spirited fightback from Shire United, who swiftly equalised to inject fresh tension into the match. Yet, Omonia responded emphatically, capitalising on their opportunities with precision. An own goal from the opposition followed by a clinical finish from top scorer Francesco Amato swung the momentum firmly in Omonia’s favour.

As the game progressed, Omonia’s dominance grew, with Cem Poyraz adding a fourth goal after a superb passage of build-up play. Rico Charalambous then sealed the victory with a fifth goal, putting any hopes of a Shire United comeback to rest.

The significance of this achievement cannot be overstated, as Omonia Youth FC Men’s 2nd Team clinched the prestigious Middlesex Cup trophy in their inaugural season. With only five previous triumphs in the club’s illustrious 30-year history, this victory is a testament to the team’s exceptional talent and dedication.

Remarkably, 14 out of the 16 players in the squad are products of Omonia’s youth setup, underscoring the club’s commitment to nurturing and developing local talent. As the five stars on the Omonia Youth FC badge proudly signify, this triumph adds another chapter to the club’s storied legacy, setting a standard of excellence for generations to come.
