Omonia Youth FC Celebrates Landmark Achievements & Unveils New 30th Anniversary Logo at AGM (3rd Sep)

September 18, 2024

On September 3rd 2024, Omonia Youth Football Club, a community football club sponsored by Stef & Philips, held their Annual General Meeting (AGM). Co-chairs Sophia Karanicholas and George Constant delivered a joint address that highlighted the club’s remarkable achievements, both on and off the pitch, over the past season. Their speeches underscored the club’s continuing growth, community impact, and ambitious plans for the future.

On-Field Success
Karanicholas and Constant began by celebrating the club’s impressive performance on the pitch, marking the 2023-2024 season as one of Omonia Youth’s most successful. The club won a staggering 11 trophies, with four league cup victories and seven cup titles. Special mention was given to the Men’s II and U13 Whites, both of which secured the treble—a highly commendable feat. The club also secured three league runner-up positions and five cup runner-up spots.

These collective accomplishments reflect the commitment and talent of both the players and coaches, and the co-chairs congratulated everyone involved for their dedication and hard work.

Off-Field Contributions and Community Recognition
Beyond their sporting success, the club made significant strides off the pitch, particularly in their community engagement efforts. Karanicholas and Constant were proud to announce that Omonia Youth had been awarded the Chris Mikkelides Award for its outstanding contribution to the local community. This accolade reinforces the club’s ongoing mission to positively impact the lives of young people, promoting both social and physical well-being through football.

The co-chairs also highlighted the achievements of one of the club’s standout coaches, Mary, who was nominated for two Middlesex FA awards and went on to win the Disability Pathway Coach of the Year award. This recognition of her work within the club’s disability football programme reflects Omonia Youth’s commitment to inclusivity and ensuring football is accessible to all.

Introduction of the New Club Logo
One of the key moments of the AGM was the unveiling of the club’s new logo, commemorating 30 years of Omonia Youth Football Club’s dedication to youth development. Karanicholas and Constant expressed pride in the club’s history of helping young people improve their social and physical health, which, in turn, has enriched the wider community. The new logo serves as a symbol of the club’s growth and its ongoing commitment to fostering the next generation of football talent in North London.

Commitment to Inclusivity and Diversity
In keeping with Omonia Youth’s mission of inclusivity, the co-chairs reaffirmed the club’s commitment to expanding its offerings in girls’ and pan-disability football. Since the club made the decision to invest in these areas, the number of pan-disability teams has grown from one to three. Additionally, the club hosted its first-ever pan-disability tournament this year, further cementing its reputation as a leader in promoting accessible football.

Looking ahead, Mary, who will take on the role of the club’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Officer, will play a pivotal part in fostering diversity within the club. Working groups focusing on girls’ and disability football will ensure that Omonia Youth remains a welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of background or ability.

As Omonia Youth celebrates its 30th anniversary, it remains dedicated to the goals of inclusivity, development, and community. With ambitious plans on the horizon, the club’s leadership expressed confidence in the future, urging all members to work together to ensure the club’s ongoing success both on and off the pitch.
