Omonia Youth FC teams continue to impress
September 24, 2019
The many teams of community grassroots club Omonia Youth FC, sponsored by PIA Financial Group and Philip Ross Solicitors continue to impress with the grassroots youth football season still in its infancy.
Kyri Georgiou’s Under 18 Green continued their good start to the season as they beat their top of the table opponents 3-2 at Enfield Grammar School 3G despite a number of players missing and playing the majority of the second half with 9 players. It was a good footballing performance which needed a lot of grit and heart. Goals were scored by Antonio Panayiotou (2) and Yianni Polycarpou. Man of the Match was awarded to Tom Vaso.
The other two Under 18 teams couldn’t follow suit as they both suffered defeats. Nick Georgiou and Dino Savva’s Under 18 Gold lost 2-0 in a disappointing performance lacking enough passion and will to win. Missing substitutes and their goalkeeper did not help. Man of the Match was Andreas Georgiou who stepped up to play in goal.
Chris Gregoriou’s Under 18 White lost 6-1 even though a very well contested first half saw them go into the half time 2-1 down. After dominating the second half for 30 minutes, they started giving the ball in dangerous areas and got hit on the break four times. Nick Gregoriou got the only goal with a superbly struck free kick into the top corner.
A goal laden performance by Chris and Jimmy Mousicos’ Under 15 Gold as they thumped their opponents 13-1. It was a one sided affair and even the opponebnts goals was scored by Omonia Youth! Goalscorers were Vansh (3), Louis G (2), Liam H (2), Craig G (2), Freddie M, Cem P, Jay C and Kayden V.
Michael Pieri’s Under 15 White also had their scoring boots on as they also scored a hatful, winning 8-3 in their cup tie. The boys finally got their first win of the season in a superb performance with some fantastic goals on a very small pitch which required them to move the ball quickly and efficiently. Goals were scored by Thomas (2), Alfonso (2), Malekai, Igor, Luc and Sami. Man of the Match was awarded to Thomas and Alfonso
Mike Koumi and Adam Broomfeld’s Under 12 White have made a strong start to the league campaign as theyaced into a three goal lead before conceding just before half time. Five further second half goals cemented a dominant display winning the game 8-2. Goals from Chris (3), Thomas (2), Harry, Davide and William. Man of the Match was Zenos.
Mario Demetriou, Johnny Othona and Elvis Leon’s Under 13 Green played a League Cup game on Sunday and came away with a 7-3 win. The boys played with real passion and desire to take their palce in the next round. Goals from Alex (3), Henry, Andreas and Nat. Zach was named Man of the Match.
Alex Christofi and Serkan Nihat’s Under 13 White suffered defeat in their league cup game against a very physically strong team. They started very well and were 2-0 up within 15 minutes but lapses in concentration let the opposition back in the game and then they just couldn’t get their football going in the second half. Goals from Kaya and Ant P with Dimari named Man of the Match.
Adam Demetri and Evagoras Madrides’ Under 14 Silver trailed 2-1 in the second half before staging a comeback to win 3-2 with two goals in the last 10 minutes. Man of the Match Brodie got two goals with Jairo getting the other goal.
Mike Petrou and Kyri Haili’s Under 16 White won their first round Challenge Cup tie 3-2. Goals from Valenti Kotori (2) and PG. Yusef Shohid was named Man of the Match.
Savva Zavros and David Poncia’s Under 14 Gold have become so accustomed to playing teams who play from the back that they their opponents last Sunday took advantage of hoofing the ball up field for the whole match resulting in a frustrating performance and a 4-1 defeat. Kaian got his side’s only goal of the game.
Zeno Vryonides and Vas Simou’s Under 12 Green lost 3-2 in their afternoon kick-off in what was a tough game against a good opponent. They conceded their goals from set piece which is something they need to work on. Goals from Alex and Nico with Lewis awarded Man of the Match for a great goal keeping display.
George Pantelides Under 15 Girls returned to action after the long summer break and played their match in Clacton!. Predictably, the girls were a little rusty but the team stayed true to their ethos and continued to play from the back. Player of the Match was Bethany Burke who gave a heroic performance in goal!
Finally Barrinton Dutton’s Under 16 Green won 9-3 away in a fantastic performance characterised with lots of free-flowing football and attacking from both wings. Goakls were scored by Nicholas (3), George (2), Julian (2), Alex and Jacob. Nicholas was named Man of the Match.
