New season, new hope; Omonia Youth FC begin their season

September 14, 2017

Community football club Omonia Youth FC, sponsored by P&M Construction UK Ltd, saw a mixture of results as the 2017/18 season started in earnest.

With the summer now a memory, the young teams of Omonia Youth FC had to endure a variety of emotions on their return to match day action.

Nick Georgiou and Kenny Gregori’s Under 15 White played their first league match away losing 4-2. Scorers were Mateo Sarmiento-Motoa and Nick Apostolou. Man of the Match was Peter Michael.

In the Middlesex Cup, the U15 Green were awarded the tie as their opponent’s could not field a team.

In the Middlesex Cup again, Nick Zimaras’ Under 18 White narrowly lost 4-3. In a very close game and boys rallied in second half after trailing 4-1 at half time. It was a good second half performance and one the boys will learn from. It was a shame they could not get the equaliser to take the game into extra-time. The goals were scored by Rosley (2) and Amelio with Cem being awarded Man of the Match.

It was another defeat in the Middlesex Cup, this time for Kyri Georgiou’s Under 16 Green. It was a great effort by the boys who played really well and put in a gutsy performance against a top team who play in the Premier Division in the Mid Herts League. The team lost 4-2. Solos got both goals with Luke Skinner being named Man of the Match.

Finally in the Middlesex Cup, Chris Gregoriou’s Under 16 White suffered a heavy defeat to a team that will in all probability go close to winning the County Cup. The 14-1 defeat only tells part of the story as the team had to contend with three first half injuries. It is in adversity where the character of young people can sometimes emerge and this was indeed the case as manager Chris stated that “…the boys showed a fantastic attitude and fighting spirit and worked until the very end.”

Nick Gregoriou was the goal scorer with Luke Stelios Man of the Match

Kyri Haili and Michael Petrou’sU Under 14 White went down 3-0. It was a good performance from the boys who battled really well and played the better football. They went a goal down down just before half time and went on to lost a further two goals to a team that is three divisions above them.

Two of the club’s Under 13 teams made their seasonal debut with both teams coming away with three important league points.

Harry Theodorou and George Sammoutis’ Under 13 Silver won a tight match 3-2.  Goal scorers were Oscar Hickley, Anthony Antoniou and Kyriacos Yianni

Man of the Match was Viktor Borisov

Jimmy and Chris Mousicos’ Under 13 Gold won their first match playing in the top division 1-0. A massive win that will give the boys a real confidence boost. Goal scorer was Louis Georgiou. Man of the Match was Kayden Trey Virgo.
