More Cup tie success for Omonia Youth FC teams

January 30, 2018

There was more Cup tie success for community grassroots football club Omonia Youth FC, sponsored by P&M Construction UK Ltd.

Nick Georgiou and Kenny Gregori’s Under 15 White won their Spring Shield tie 3-0 thanks to a tremendous performance. Nick commented that the “…boys played some excellent football and scored three fantastic goals. I’m a very happy and proud coach today!” Scorers were Apostolos Tziatzios, Peter Michael, Louie Capsalis with Louie also named Man of the Match.

One of the performances of the week came from Dean Dionisiou, Michael Varney, Mario Kleopa and Neo Petrides Under 15 Green who smashed eight goals past their opponents to win their Mid Herts Quarter-Final tie 8-4.

In difficult conditions at Turkey Street the Under 15 Green started the game well missing a number of chances in the first 15 minutes. After 20 minutes they found themselves 2-0 down. With five minutes remaining of the first half, last year’s top goal scorer George Stasi, pulled a goal back with a superb overhead kick.

Five minutes into the second half the Under 15 Green were 3-2 up and began to control the game and soon went further ahead with two more goals to go 5-2 up.

The deficit was reduced to 5-3 with 20 minutes remaining but the Under 15 Green scored on the break to restore their three goal lead at 6-3. Their opponents never gave up and added a fourth for a nervy final 10 minutes. However, the Under 15 Green continued play their football and added a further two goals to make the final score 8-4. It was a great match and a full blooded cup tie with the Under 15 Green moving to the last four. Goal scorers were George Stasi (5), Clinton Beokojie, Tobenna Abana and Mikey Dionisiou. Man of the Match was awarded to Clinton Beokojie

In the Under 13 League Cup, Chris and Jimmy Mousicos’ Under 13 Gold won 5-1 and move to the quarter final. Louis Georgiou (4) and and Rayan Haboubi with a cracking free kick were the scorers. Three Men of the Match were named Louis G, Charlie Mousicos and Freddie Morrall.

In League action, Michael Pieri’s Under 13 White struggled to get a team together through illness and injuries and cold only field 10 players against their unbeaten opponents and promptly lost 9-1. Out of defeat the boys can take with them the fact that they still tried to play their football and still try their best in extremely difficult circumstances. Santino Raia got their only goal, Stefanos Pieri saved a penalty and Godwin was named Man of the Match.

Kyri Haili and Mike Petrou’s Under 14 White also suffered defeat, going down 4-1. PG Beer got the goal and was also named Man of the Match.

Kyri Georgiou’s Under 16 Green continued their recent poor form as they lost 4-0. Conceding soft goals and not taking chances is the unfortunate story at the moment.

Andreas Georgiou was named Man of the Match.

By contrast, Omi Omirou’s Under 12

Omonia Greens U12 Green won 2-0 to continue their fine form. Luca Andreou scored both goals and was named Man of the Match.

Any Kyriacou and Chris Gregoriou’s were under pressure before their match as several players were unavailable due to illness and injury. However, 11 players were scraped together and they produced a resilient performance. Missed opportunities should have seen the team take all three points but it was not to be as the game ended 1-1.

George Kyriacou got the goal who rifled the ball home into the top corner leaving the goalkeeper rooted to the spot. Man of the Match was Michael Patsias

The Under 15 team who play in the London Youth Premier League had a full squad to choose from this week and it showed. Good passing and deadly finishing for an excellent confidence boost ahead of their tour to Cyprus. Goal scorers were Andy Polycarpou (3) Yousif Habibi (2) and Stiven.

In other news two of the club’s young footballers will be involved in national cup finals for their school.

Harry Phantis of Omonia U13 Gold will be playing in the Independent Schools Football Association final for Lochinver at Burton Albion FC. It is a 1.15pm kick off. Following this match at 6.30pm will be the U15 final featuring Rico Charalambous of the U15 playing for Aldenham. Both matches will be played on 15th March and is something for the club to celebrate. Sincere congratulations to them both and good luck to both on what will be a very special day.
