Goals galore for Omonia Youth FC teams

October 9, 2018

Community football club Omonia Youth FC, sponsored by PIA Financial Group and Philip Ross Solicitors, saw many of their teams score plenty of goals in the latest round of grassroots youth football matches.

There was a clean sweep of wins for the three Under 14 teams playing last Sunday. Chris and Jimmy Mousicos Under 14 Gold won 2-1 thanks to goals from Cem Poyraz and Thomas Mansaray. Mo Conteh was named Man of the Match.

Winning by the same score line were Mario Christoforou and Nick Lingis’ Under 14 Green. Nick Papasavva and Joe Katsianounis scored the goals with Adam Bourahla rewarded with the Man of the Match award.

Finally, George Sammoutis and Harry Theodorou’s Under 14 Silver won 4-0 away from home to take all three points. Goalscorers were Rohan Biswas (2) and Gabriel Nyarko-Duodu (2) with Nicholas Theodorou named Man of the Match.

Congratulations to Savva Zavros and David Poncia’s Under 13 Gold who went goal crazy and registered a thumping 7-0 win. All the boys give 100% commitment, communicated well, played as a team and scored some great goals. Louis Brown and Max Albrecht scored twice each with Zak Naji, Harry Theodorou and Ky Zavros also getting on the scoresheet. Louis Brown was named Man of the Match.

Dino and Nick Georgiou’s Under 16 White were enthused by their Under 16 White’s resilience as they won 4-3. It was a great game for the parents and carers watching with the Under 16 White taking the lead three times and being equalised by the opposition. However, the team got the got the winning goal in a seven goal thriller with Dino and George commenting that “…the boys showed a great team spirit, never gave up and eventually got the winner. It was a well-deserved win and we are very proud and happy coaches.”

Peter Michael (2), Apostolos Tziatzios and Louie Capsalis were the scorers with Nick Apostolou named Man of the Match.

Mario Demetriou, Tas Georgiou, Johnny Othona Under 12 Green faced a top division side and even though the team battled throughout, they lost 7-1. Even so, Mario was proud of his team as the boys never gave up.

In the Cup, Panos Papa-Michael, Elia Constanti and Andy Michael’s Under 15 Gold were dominant as they eased into the next round thanks to a 7-2 win. However, they had to come from behind as their opponents took the lead and made the most out of the few good situations they had, whilst the Under 15 Gold were wasteful in front of goal. They did, however, manage to draw level just before the half time whistle. The second half was a different story as the Under 15 Gold played to their potential, picked up the intensity and started moving the ball better. Their ability then really started to show with a mixture of goals – some great passing moves leading to simple finishes and some great goals from individual brilliance.

Scorers were Youseff Habibi (2), George Constanti (2), Andreas Polycarpou, Marco Goumal & Tom Gibb.

Coach Elia wanted to give a special mention to performances by Tom Gibb, Andreas Polycarpou and George Constanti who hit two absolute ‘worldies’ but Man of the Match was Zach Goodman beaucse “…his levels of consistency both in defence and attack are a managers dream!”

Omi Omirou and Stel Loizou finally saw their Under 13 Green team defeated after an incredible unbeaten run. It was the team’s first league defeat for nearly a year and the 6-2 score line doesn’t reflect the performance and the boys performed immensely against a team that have not lost a game in over two years. As Omi said “…we learn and move forward.” Goals were scored by William and Leo with Luke Man of the Match.

Mike Petrou and Kyri Haili’s Under 15 White lost 7-2 but again both coaches were content that the team gave everything and put up a good fight against an unbeaten team from a higher division. The Under 15 White held the score level for most of the game but conceded late goals to give a score line that did not reflect their performance. Man of the Match Tyler Attreed got one goal with Hao Xin O’Sullivan getting the other one.

Chris Gregoriou’s Under 18 White lost 5-3 after a slow start by his team saw them go 3-0 down inside 20 minutes. The Under 18 White did then rouse themselves and started to play some nice football resulting in two goals before half time. A second half of tough tackles and missed chances with the opposition goalkeeper making many saves meant the under 18 White were also chasing the game.

Tariq Stewart (2) and Antonio Gelagotellis got the goals but it was Raheem Watt who was named Man of the Match after three assists in a great debut.

Kyri Georgiou’s Under 18 Green won their game 4-1 in a hard fought competitive match. Jamal (2), Andrew and Leon were the scorers with Nick named Man of the Match.
