Derby Day for Omonia Youth FC teams

October 30, 2017

In a thrilling and tight game, it was the Under 12 Silver who won by the odd goal in five and take their place in the next round of the cup.

Nicola (2) and Brodi got the goals with Ru being named Man of the Match for the Silvers.

After the match, both managers reflected on the match. Adam: “I felt my boys played with all their heart and soul. We have truly turned a corner in rebuilding our team with close friendships and love for each the deciding factor in winning the game! My boys gave everything and deserved the win. It was the most entertaining game we have had this season and thanks to the Gold team who played the game in great spirit. One Omonia.”

Savva was gracious in defeat: “A second round Challenge Cup Derby which showcased both teams’ individual and team development with end to end and nail biting action. Excellent sportsmanship was shown by teams and between the boys with Omonia Silver clinching a well-deserved win.”

If that was the match of the day, the comeback of the day came from Nick Zimaras’ Under 18 White who showed incredible character and stayed true to their footballing principles to come back from 3-0 down to win 5-3 in the Challenge Cup against a team who had hitherto won all their games this season. A truly fabulous performance and well done to all invovled. Goals were scored by Rosley (2), Aaron, Jacob and Hamza with Luke Hadji named Man of the Match.

Chris Gregoriou’s Under 16 White continue their strong start to the season with another win to stay top of their Division. They started the game on the front foot creating chances from the first minute. Scoring an early goal settled the team and this was evidence with some good passing and great link up play. The second half was played in the same way with the White’s winning 5-2, although in truth it could’ve been more. The win sets the team up nicely for the Under 16 Derby next week. Goal scorers were Greg Georgiou (2), Alex Androutsos (2) and Stavris Konstantinidis. Man of the Match was Greg Georgiou.

Another team who are unbeaten in the league are Michael Pieri’s Under 13 White who enjoyed an important 3-1 win. It was an excellent performance from the boys who scored three well worked goals and had several other chances to score. Goals were scored by Emmanuel Onouha-Nzeh, Santino Raia and Sami Hristov. Man of the Match was Yianni Sophocleous for a superb display at right full back.

Nick Lingis and Mario Christoforou’s Under 13 Green also suffered defeat, frustratingly losing 5-2. The score should’ve been so much different had the Green’s converted the many chances they created. Goals were scored by Georgios Christoforou and Erin Magashi with Valentino Nicolaou named Man of the Match.

Chris and Jimmy Mousicos’ Under 13 Gold went down 8-1. Kayden Njogu with the goal with Lewie Francis named Man of the Match.

Harry Theodorou and George Sammoutis’ Under 13 Silver scored six goals for the second consecutive week winning away by six goals to one. It was a solid team performance with the boys combining well to create some superb goals. Two hat-tricks from Ben Pool and Rohan Biswas with Man of the Match awarded to Joe Tullis.

In the Essex County Girls Cup the U13 Girls team played a team a division higher and acquitted themselves extremely well. They defended brilliantly in the first half, with inspired goalkeeping from Izzy and some very well-timed interventions from Captain Zoe Leahy. 0-0 at half time was deserved. A determined second half performance, saw the girls keep their stronger opponents to a one goal lead until the final few minutes. The game ended with a final score of 4-0.

There were two fine debuts, including a solid performance by Nicole Petrou. Player of the Match was Zoe Leahy with some great defensive play. Special mention to Izzy Fanning, a superb goalkeeper who made 25+ saves.

The Under 15 Gold who play their football in the London Youth Premier League lost 4-0 to Crystal Palace Under 16. The boys had some very good periods when they put their opponents under pressure and where they should’ve converted some of the good chances they created. Man of the Match was Andrew Christofi and Andreas Kyriacou who both didn’t give up until the end.

Kyri Georgiou’s Under 16 Green lost 4-2 in their League Cup tie. The boys played well in the first half but dropped their level in the second and consequently went out. Goal scorers were Stelios Minas and Yianni Polycarpou while Man of the Match was Andreas Georgiou

Mario Stavrou’s Under 12 White went down 2-0 with Peter Stavrou awarded Man of the Match. By contrast Omi Omirou’s Under 12 Green ran out 4-2 winners thanks to goals from Jamal M (3) and Alex K. Man of the Match was Zach O

In the Mid Herts Premier Division, the U15 Green gave their best performance of the season to convincingly win 6-1. After a nervy start the boys settled and took a 1-0 lead and ended the first half 3-0 up. A determined second half performance led to three more goals.

Coach Dean Dionisiou commented that the team “…played some excellent football on a great Turkey Street surface. A special mention to George Stasi and Clinton Beokojie who shared a half each in goal due to injury to our keeper.”

Goals scorers were Tobenna Abana (3), George Stasi (2) and Lawrence Young. Man of the Match was Christos Pedrithes.
