Omonia Youth FC Weekly Round-Up: Celebrating Football, Friendship and Festive Fun (07/12)
December 8, 2025

As the year edges towards its close, Omonia Youth FC continues to shine both on the pitch and in the community. With Christmas approaching, more teams have been enjoying their festive socials — strengthening friendships, sharing laughs, and building memories that go far beyond match-day. These celebrations capture the essence of what grassroots football should be: togetherness, belonging and joy away from the pressure of competition. With that spirit in mind, here is this week’s footballing action.
U9 Green
WFL match | Home vs AC Finchley West U9 | PotM: Greg | Coaches: Andy, Paul & Chris
Omonia made a lively start to the match, moving the ball well and creating several early chances that put AC Finchley under pressure. However, as the half progressed, the visitors showed a slight edge in work rate and intensity, making it a closely balanced contest by the time the teams reached the break. Despite this, Omonia remained competitive and continued to look for openings in the final third.
The second half proved more challenging, with the boys’ energy levels dropping and the opposition able to capitalise by creating a number of straightforward goalscoring opportunities. A lack of urgency in pressing and closing down allowed Finchley more time on the ball—an area the team will continue to work on in training. Even so, Omonia finished the match with a stronger spell, showing more attacking intent in the closing stages. Greg stood out throughout, displaying tireless energy and offering support all over the pitch, making him a deserving Player of the Match.
U11 Silver
WFL match | Home vs APB Wingate U11 | PotM: Oliver & Mario | Coaches: Pete L., Angelo L.

Omonia Youth FC U11 Silver
Omonia started with a spring in their step against another tough opponent. Elite pass-and-move football caught Wingate cold, and strong play in the middle of the park ensured Omonia were on top early. The visitors had moments on the break, but a resilient and solid defensive display kept them out.
The second half saw Omonia pick up exactly where they left off, with Wingate coming close on a few occasions but denied by excellent goalkeeping from Oliver. Attack after attack followed, with the squad’s fitness showing as the boys maintained their intensity to the end. A confident and convincing display — onwards and upwards.
U11 Girls Silver
GSL match | Away vs Talent X | PotM: Evie

Omonia Youth FC U11 Girls Silver
A superb effort from the girls, who showed determination, bravery and teamwork throughout. Despite adapting to a brand-new formation, they stayed organised, supported one another, and implemented their training with real maturity. Evie was outstanding — resilient, hard-working and fully deserving of Player of the Match.
U14 Silver
WFL match | 3-0 win | PotM: Mert
A resilient display in tough conditions. Omonia dominated possession in the first half but lacked clear chances. After regrouping at halftime, the team took control. A fortunate opener fell their way before Albion produced a spectacular goal from his own half — a truly outstanding moment. Maxi added a third after capitalising on a goalkeeping error. A strong, disciplined, and important league win.
U11 Greens
WFL match | Home vs Belsize Park U11 | PotM: Jack
A competitive first half saw chances at both ends, with Omonia pressing well and winning the ball high up the pitch. Defensively, the Greens were excellent throughout, with Jo dealing comfortably with long-range efforts. Despite worsening weather, Omonia continued to push forward in the second half, creating chances and remaining solid at the back. A good, improving performance week on week. A special shout-out to referee Andrew — son of Myri, former club chairman — who impressed on his refereeing debut.
U11 Gold
WFL match | Away vs Whetstone Lions | PotM: Philip P. | Coaches: Chris, Andy & Joe

Omonia Youth FC U11 Gold
The Golds set three targets for the penultimate game of the year: enjoy the match, play for each other, and showcase their “worldies” — whether tackles, decisions or moments of skill. They started strongly, adjusting to difficult conditions and delivering an outstanding defensive performance when ball retention became challenging. Philip P edged a strong team display for Player of the Match. Six years together, and it shows — a squad built on trust, effort and unity.
More Christmas Celebrations Across the Club
Festive spirit continues to sweep through Omonia Youth FC, with more teams enjoying Christmas parties, bowling nights and meals together. These moments off the pitch are as important as the footballing achievements — strengthening friendships, building confidence and creating memories that bring teams even closer. As more squads celebrate in the coming weeks, the club’s family-centred ethos shines brighter than ever.
